Today, every new bank account, wallet or credit line restarts the same ritual from zero: the same documents photographed again, the same selfie taken again, the same weeks of waiting — while each institution quietly accumulates its own copy of a life that was never meant to be duplicated. The cost is paid twice over: by the customer, who abandons; and by the institution, which pays full onboarding price for a person already verified next door.
SmartKYC is a B2B2C platform that inverts the ownership of that process. An individual builds their verified identity file once, and keeps it. Institutions no longer collect — they request. Each request is explicit, and each authorization is deliberately narrow: limited in scope, limited in duration, refusable, and revocable at any moment. An institution sees the file only while a live consent says it may. When the consent expires or is withdrawn, access closes — not as a policy promise, but as a server-side state.
That principle is enforced in the architecture rather than in the terms of service. Every state transition, every document view, every consent change is written to an audit trail. Tenant data is isolated at row level, so no institution ever brushes against another's customers. Sensitive documents are never exposed at a permanent URL — only through short-lived signed links. Statuses are not free text but validated state machines, so a file cannot silently drift into a position no one authorized.
The platform coordinates four kinds of stakeholders around a single record: customers, who own their identity file and arbitrate access to it; agents, who enrol prospects on the ground and earn commissions strictly on confirmed conversions, with duplicate and self-referral controls; institutional managers, who handle access requests, review, products and integrations within their own perimeter; and platform administrators, who oversee manual reviews, disputes, fraud and audit.
For partner institutions, integration is deliberately unremarkable: a signed API and replayable webhooks, exercised first in a sandbox environment, then promoted to production. No proprietary client, no bespoke integration project — the file is fetched under active consent, and the conversion is confirmed back.
The product is built for a market where the constraints are real, not theoretical: intermittent connectivity, field enrolment, encrypted drafts and resumable uploads on the customer's phone — because a KYC file collected in a low-bandwidth environment must survive the network, not depend on it.
The result: identity verification that stops being an administrative tax paid over and over, and becomes an asset the individual owns and lends — under conditions they set.
The Problem

Across the CEMAC region, every new account opening requires customers to rebuild a complete KYC file including identity documents, supporting records, and compliance checks. The cost is incurred three times: by the customer, who must repeat the process; by the financial institution, which repeats verifications already performed elsewhere; and by the system itself, which proliferates copies of personal data without a shared audit trail.

The architecture is built on strict multi-tenant isolation between institutions, a comprehensive audit trail for every access, a mobile-first onboarding flow with live camera capture and document verification, and a commission-based model for the agent network.

The product is currently at the vertical demonstration stage of the customer journey. Target metrics include: the number of KYC files reused rather than recreated, average onboarding time, consent approval rate, and agent conversion rate.
